model of the ekranoplane of new generation “Chaika-2” was presented in Nizhny
Novgorod. The presentation was held within the framework of ceremonial event,
dedicated to the 100th anniversary since the birth of the
outstanding designer Rostislav Alexeev.
The
new sea multipurpose cargo-passenger ekranoplane can fly to remote places,
where there are not always good landing strips. It can land both on water and
on ice. It will be approximately equal to IL – 18 at capacity.
The
price of “Chaika-2” is not yet known. “The price will be known, when the main
project will be completed”, - said the Chairman of the Board of Directors –
General Designer of JSC “R.E.Alexeev’s Hydrofoil Design Bureau” George Antsev.
“The
new ekranoplane will be applied in the emergency service, in offshore works, to
ensure drilling works on the Arctic. It isintended
for export and will be work, where the aerodromes and aviation cannot work. It
is South-East Asia, India, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, South America, South
Africa, United Arab Emirates. The places where it is necessary to transport a
large number of people”, - said Antsev.

“R.E.Alexeev’s Hydrofoil Design Bureau” was founded by Rostislav Evgenievich
Alexeev (December 18, 1916 – February 9, 1980) – engineer- shipbuilder,
designer of hydrofoils and ekranoplanes, doctor of technical Sciences, laureate
of Lenin and State prizes. He was born in the city of Novozibkov, Chernigov
province (now Bryansk region). After the graduation from the Polytechnic
Institute, he was sent to the plant Red Sormovo. Since 1942 he started to work
on the design of hydrofoils, carried out the successful research and trials. In
January, 1955 he became the Head of Hydrofoil Central Design Bureau (CDB).
